Why nothing is uploaded
Merging happens with JavaScript on your own machine, using pdf-lib. Your files never reach a server, which also means there is no size limit beyond what your browser can hold in memory, and no privacy policy to read before you use it.
What carries over
Pages, their size and their content come across exactly as they were. Bookmarks, form fields, annotations and attachments from the originals are not carried into the merged file. If you need those preserved, merge with a desktop tool instead.
Merge PDF: common questions
Are my files uploaded when I merge them?
No. The merge runs in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server, so there is no upload, no queue and no copy of your documents anywhere.
How many PDFs can I merge at once?
There is no fixed limit. The practical ceiling is your browser's memory, which in normal use means dozens of files or several hundred pages.
Is there a file size limit?
None imposed by us. Because the work happens locally, a 200MB file is as fine as a 200KB one, as long as your machine can hold it.
Can I change the order of the files?
Yes. Each file in the list has Up and Down controls. The merged document follows the order shown on screen.
Does it work with password-protected PDFs?
No. Remove the password in your PDF reader first, then merge the unlocked copy.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. The tool is the same on mobile, though very large files may run out of memory on older devices.
Need this inside your own app?
The same engine runs behind the html4pdf API: post HTML, a URL or a JSON template and get a PDF back in the same request. Nothing is stored on our side. New accounts get 10 free credits.
